The
Aftermath: Hurricane Christopher from May 1998
The
Aftermath: Hurricane Florence from July 1998
This
is a Cayman Islands government message (British colony as of 1886). As from
the end of March 2001 until May 2001 the Cayman Islands has been designated
UNINHABITABLE. Advances in hurricane tracking technology have been able
to predict hurricane start and end points to be 99.9% accurate. This technology
has been pioneered by the National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP)
and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Many of the
36,000 inhabitants of the Cayman Islands have been asked to leave for this time.
The army will keep direct charge of the islands for the duration of April as
the Cayman Islands has £500bn of overseas investment (most of which is
held on the island). The main area to avoid has been circled on the map below.
Anyone travelling to the Cayman Islands do so entirely
at their own risk and insurance. Thank you
The
hurricane forecasted for April 2001 has been deemed higher than FORCE 12 (Beaufort
Scale). Hurricanes of 1998 & 1999 did not reach Force 11.
